What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is that fear that stops us from achieving.
It is the fear of failure, of not being good enough, of appearing stupid, of making a mistake.
It prevents us from sleeping and makes us feel hot and clammy.
Our hearts race and our thoughts run in circles.
Depression
That feeling of sadness overwhelms you, and you cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. There is no joy in life as you plod along in the dark. Some depression is deeper than others. Some depression can come and go. Depression needs the light at the end of the tunnel and the knowledge that you will come through it. Depression needs support, understanding and time to heal.
Burnout
This is what happens when you ignore the messages your body gives you in favour of continuous striving. Burnout can happen at any age and is caused by long-term stress. Filling your life with things you used to do that once made you happy but as you begin to fatigue, they become chores. Burnout will stop you in your tracks and lead to frustration, as you cannot do the things you used to do. Warning signs of fatigue, are repeated injuries and illnesses. If you wake in the morning feeling unrefreshed and unhappy about what you need to do that day, it’s time to make a change.
Grief
Grief is one of those emotions that everyone will experience in their life but seems to make other people really uncomfortable. There seems to be unspoken pressure to “get over it”. Yet when a person is grieving they need support. Grief is not limited to the loss of a loved one. It can be a relationship break up, loss of a job or health. A person experiencing grief needs to feel that it is okay to be sad and it is okay to work through it. For those who are supporting someone who is grieving it is okay to not have the answers and to not be able to fix it.
Stress
Hands up who isn’t stressed. Anyone? If you are not, well done! If you are, stress can be managed. Long-term stress is a very unhealthy place to be. Long-term stress can affect your heart, your gut, your circulation and muscles. It can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity, pain and digestive upsets. There are ways you can deal with stress which will head off physical illness.
Carers
When you care for or about someone with health problems or addictions then your mental health can be strained. You worry about things you cannot fix because you love them. Sometimes you need a place to go and unburden. Sometimes you need support and tools to cope too. Those of you that have had a loved one attempt suicide or suicide, also need support.Reach out, I am here.
